DEADSTRING TRAD GUITAR IMMERSION DAY 2018 • CAMBRIDGE, MA
The third annual Deadstring Trad Guitar Immersion Day will happen on Saturday May 19, 2018 and will be hosted by the Passim School of Music in Harvard Square.
Attention guitarists: join Flynn Cohen and Matt Heaton for a full day of guitar immersion in beautiful Cambridge, Massachusetts. Students will choose from 10 different class options and two different guitar tunings–-Dropped-D & DADGAD--as well as being treated to a house concert from the three hosts. The goal of this experience is to move you closer to a complete understanding of the accompaniment of traditional fiddle music through immersion in specific fingerboard knowledge, as well as drills and exercises to broaden the scope of your acoustic guitar playing. Students of all levels are welcome and there will be a small group of 15 slots available. Class offerings include:
• chord vocabulary
• chord drills
• strumming techniques
• ear training for trad music
• explanation of the modes
• accompaniment masterclass

Flynn is a long-time guitar sideman to Irish accordion legend John Whelan. He also tours around the country with American folk band Low Lily and is presently writing a book on Dropped-D guitar playing.
Matthew performs with his wife Shannon Heaton in their world renowned and critically acclaimed flute-guitar duo. Has also performed with Boys of the Lough, Aoife Clancy, and other trad music legends.
