We will learn a Bothy Band chord progression for a tune that modulates between B minor and D major; and we will also explore the textural possibilities of song accompaniment with DADGAD, including fingerstyle techniques.
FLATPCIKING IRISH TRAD MUSIC
We will discuss pick gauge, right-hand technique, left-hand efficiency, tone, and ornamentation, and learn some exercises to develop the necessary skills to flatpick Irish trad (as well as other types of fiddle tunes) on the acoustic guitar.
Flynn is a long-time guitar sideman to Irish accordion legend John Whelan. He also tours around the country with American folk band Low Lily and is presently writing a book on Dropped-D guitar playing.
Matthew performs with his wife Shannon Heaton in their world renowned and critically acclaimed flute-guitar duo. Has also performed with Boys of the Lough, Aoife Clancy, and other trad music legends.
